Google Wants TV Spectrum Open for Internet

08/19/2008

Google (GOOG) and friends are joining forces in an effort to ‘Free the Airwaves.’

The new campaign is an attempt to rally support for opening underutilized portions of the TV broadcast spectrum for high-speed wireless Internet networking. The company says doing so is critical to making Internet access cheaper in the U.S. and more competitive with services around the world.

Google competitior Microsoft (MSFT) is also backing the campaign.
