COMPTEL: Global Crossing Introduces Carrier VoIP Capability

Global Crossing (Booth 314) announced ABA Net, a long-distance telecommunications service provider, is using a new complementary capability to Global Crossing Carrier Outbound VoIP Service to provide voice service for ABA Net’s customers in the United States.

This new capability, called Global Crossing VoIP Pseudo Carrier Identification Code (CIC) Service, improves the handoff of switched access calls that are transported on the Global Crossing network. This is done by using a SIP-based interconnection, which provides unique networking efficiencies and design flexibilities for carrier customers. Once a VoIP Pseudo CIC call is received, customers have the option to use Global Crossing Carrier VoIP Outbound Service to deliver the call to its destination.

“Using Global Crossing’s extensive VoIP services capabilities — especially VoIP Pseudo CIC — has helped us achieve more than 25 percent infrastructure cost savings and simplified vendor management by reducing the services and equipment we purchase from other companies,” said Mirsad Causevic, ABA Net president and CTO.

ABA Net, established in 2005, serves more than 10,000 customers in the United States and more than 12,000 in Bosnia through its subsidiary Air ABA. During its conversion from SS7 technology to IP-based SIP, Global Crossing managed the company’s migration to Global Crossing VoIP Services.

“We’re very excited about the incredible flexibility of these services,” Causevic added. “For example, adding new connections is simpler, easier and faster; and we’re now able to offer a wider selection of calling features to our customers. In addition, increasing IP bandwidth is easier than ordering and installing more voice circuits, so we can now keep up with the incredible growth we’re experiencing.”

Global Crossing Carrier VoIP Services use Global Crossing's integrated IP and TDM platforms to provide wholesale IP interconnection, transport and call completion of packet-based voice traffic. The product architecture provides outbound and inbound call flows, including toll-free completions from the North American Dial Plan areas, which are secure, carrier-class quality and scalable, said Global Crossing.

“As carriers and resellers continue to evolve their networks to a converged IP-based infrastructure, they require flexible migration options and alternative interconnection methods for their switched access origination services,” said Gary Breauninger, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer. “The combination of Global Crossing’s VoIP Pseudo CIC service and our thorough migration process, [which] includes full interoperability lab testing of equipment, enables our carrier customers to more easily migrate to a converged IP infrastructure and reap the benefits of convergence.”
