GC Delivers VLAN-based Ethernet Access for IP

Global Crossing (GLBC) has added to its Ethernet portfolio with the addition of EtherExtend Flex Service. The service was designed to provide customers with a cost-effective and flexible means of accessing IP-based services, according to Global Crossing.

The service, for which Global Crossing leverages access services from local providers, ensures various applications get the level of service they require. Rather than forwarding the customer’s traffic over a physical connection to Global Crossing, however, the traffic is forwarded via a logical connection as a Virtual Local Area Network over a physical Network to Network Interface, explained Global Crossing, which didn’t provide pricing for the service.

The service now is available in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It will roll out to more than 70 points of presence in those areas, plus Latin America, by year’s end.
