Mind Over Matter? Gauging the AT&T Breakup’s Impact

Twenty-five years after the breakup of Ma Bell, industry experts ponder whether the dissolution of the nation’s telephone company had any significant impact on how the telecom market functions.

According to some analysts, whether or not AT&T was broken up has created little change in competition for communications services due in part to the consolidation of many of the pieces of what was once known as Ma Bell. And the changes that did happen since the breakup, according to some sources, have come largely at the hands of new service providers and technologies on the VoIP and wireless fronts.
