Metro Ethernet Services for Rural Tennessee
05/27/2008
DTC Communications, a residential and business services provider in Tennessee, partnered with Fujitsu Network Communications to rebuild a 300-mile metro Ethernet network. The new Ethernet network employs Fujitsu’s FLASHWAVE 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs). DTC replaced existing SONET equipment to increase Ethernet bandwidth, expand coverage to rural communities and allow for more services going forward. The existing equipment had been supporting phone and Internet service to just five counties. DTC’s Network/TCC Supervisor Jerry Strait commented that there is a new playing field for communications with standards for Ethernet bandwidth and carrier-class networks. He believes that the MSPPs will elevate DTC to meet these standards “with OC-192 line rates and advanced Ethernet transport features.” DTC leveraged three Fujitsu products: FLASHWAVE 4500 nodes, FLASHWAVE 4100 Large Shelf Systems, and FLASHWAVE 4100 Extension Shelves. These products will ensure DTC’s customers greater bandwidth for data applications as well as guaranteed quality of service (QoS) Ethernet services.
