Fujitsu Adds Edge Packet Optical Solution

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. today took the wraps off a new packet optical solution, called the CDS, for the network’s edge.

The FLASHWAVE CDS is intended to bring the packet optical networking benefits found in the 9500 into the edge portion of the network, said Randy Eisenach, a market development director at Fujitsu.

The FLASHWAVE CDS is a hardened 19-inch, two-slot, 2U aggregation unit that addresses enterprise Ethernet service, wireless backhaul and TDM service delivery/demarcation applications.

The CDS is scheduled for general availability in the first quarter of next year, although the box will be available to select customers in third quarter of this year.
