FMC's Hot Week: DiVitas Client, Agito-Trapeze Interop

By Tara Seals

These things seem to run in cycles. One week, it’s five femtocell announcements. The next, it’s all about social networking. This week, fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) is getting its 15 packets of fame with news from FMC rivals DiVitas Networks and Agito Networks.

DiVitas has released new FMC client software for the handset that converts its previous text-based interface to one with icons to access unified communications (UC) features like the fixed office line, visual voice mail, instant messaging, presence and contact management.

For its part, Agito on Thursday announced interoperability with WLAN vendor Trapeze Networks. Agito’s RoamAnywhere platform allows enterprise users to traverse wireless LANs and cell networks while accessing UC features across both, in a way that’s invisible to the user. Unlike DiVitas, Agito doesn’t make use of a handset client strategy; it works behind the scenes.

It wasn’t just these two in the fray this week. Those announcements are in addition to news Wednesday from Cisco Systems Inc. that it would support Windows Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry devices as part of its unified communications solution, plus AT&T Inc.’s announcement about its enterprise mobility push.

Mobility, UC, FMC: you’re hot!
