Ethos Takes Wraps Off E-80 Ethernet Transport Solution

Switch Manages Traffic, Guarantees QoS in PBB-TE Networks

Ethos Networks has unveiled a new Ethernet service transport switch called the E-80, which company founder Adam Dunsky said was built from the ground up to be carrier-class and support PBB and PBB-TE technologies.

The quality of service afforded by PBB-TE enables the E-80 to do dynamic, real-time bandwidth control and end-to-end enforcement, which is done at the entrance of the network, said Dunsky. The Ethos management system, which handles all of the company’s products, also allows for maximum utilization of network resources and enables carriers to provision based on various parameters.

The E-80, which offers an integrated hybrid card combining 1GB and 10 GB “for maximum flexibility,” will become generally available by the end of the year, and is now in betas with three customers, which Dunsky declined to name.

The E-80 replaces the E-60 as a part of Ethos’ end-to-end E-series product line, which includes the entry level E-20, high-capacity E-240, and Ethos DMS.
