ECI Telecom Intros Carrier Ethernet Gear, 1Net Framework
Paula Bernier
03/17/2008 ECI Telecom on Monday unveiled Carrier Ethernet gear as well as what it calls a new framework, 1Net, which describes the vendor’s end-to-end approach to helping service providers migrate to next-generation networks at their own pace.
The new Carrier Ethernet equipment is part of ECI Telecom’s 9000 product family, which includes the SR9700 series of switch/routers for metro and core aggregation; and the 9200 series for use in demarcation, access and lower-speed aggregation applications. The SR9700 is based on ECI Telecom’s ShadeTree modular IP/MPLS SW, offers 1200GE capacity per rack and can scale to 100gpbs per slot.
The 9000 products, slated to be generally available in late April, address enterprise services including the Metro Ethernet Forum-defined E-LAN, E-Line and E-Tree services as well as IP VPN and voice and video services for businesses; residential applications including high-speed Internet, IPTV and video on demand; converged services with a cellular wireless element; and cellular-based video, personalized and Ethernet and IP RAN services.
The products use the same management system, enabling service providers to do fault detection, isolation and repair as well as service provisioning using a single system that can see across optical transport and data layers.
In fact, providing a single management system across its product line is a key tenet of ECI Telecom’s new 1Net framework. “The overall end to end [view] of your services is critical,” says Peter Skovrup, senior product manager of CESR Platforms for ECI Telecom, which also sells metro networking solutions including MSPPs and ROADMs, converged access gear, and related management solutions and global services. Beyond just management, however, 1Net enables service providers to add packet-based solutions to their existing optical transport networks easily; gradually, if needed; and with the necessary quality of service, control and SLA support.
Arie Melamed, vice president of marketing, adds that because of its experience in telecom, partnerships with other companies in the industry, and the fact that it has integrated R&D and all product lines as part of the same services unit it can provide customers with integrated solutions that best meet their next-generation networking needs.
