Dallas Mavs Owner Cuban Faces Insider Trading Charges

He might have a condo at Dallas’ W hotel, his own HP “the computer is personal again” commercial and, oh yeah, own the iconic Dallas Mavericks basketball team, but Mark Cuban’s coolness cache just plummeted with SEC charges on Monday alleging he sold shares of a startup called Mamma.com prior to a private offering that he knew about and expected to dilute the stock price.

Cuban is well-known as a tech entrepreneur (as well as “America’s coolest billionaire”), as the founder of Broadcast.com and owner of high-def cable channel HDNet. He’s also well-known for being outspoken in the tech world. Perhaps most memorably, in June Cuban weighed in on the YouTube-Hulu.com showdown (the latter being an official licensed content portal from NBC Universal and News Corp.), saying that Hulu will “stomp” YouTube, and that Google was crazy to buy the user-generated property in the first place.

However, the dashing Dallas darling was strangely silent in his blog about the insider trading charges, saying only: “I wish I could say more, but I will have to leave it to this, and let the judicial process do its job.”
