Cisco Takes a ‘Jab’ at Enterprise IM

The acquisition machine just keeps on churning.

Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) announced on Friday it has purchased IM software maker Jabber. Cisco didn’t say how much it paid for the company, but did say it’ll install Jabber capabilities into unified communications and SaaS applications.

Jabber specializes in open source, leading industry watchers to wonder if Cisco will take the lead in the open source sector.
