Carriers Discuss Need to Move to Tiered Broadband
09/25/2008
While Verizon was clear that it’s not doing any traffic throttling, the company and a group of other network service providers discussed today at Streaming Media West the need to move to tiered pricing models in order to address growing video traffic on their networks. Companies involved in the discussion included AT&T Inc., Level 3 Communications, Verizon and peer-to-peer outfit PPLive. While this discussion is nothing new, just when and how service providers will implement this kind of thing has been a question mark both in marketing and regulatory circles.
