Can AT&T’s iPhone Weather VzW’s BlackBerry Storm?
10/08/2008
Everyone’s so touchy these days! Touchscreeny, that is. Research in Motion Ltd. on Wednesday launched the first touchscreen BlackBerry device, dubbed “Storm.” The smart phone will launch on the Verizon Wireless network, and boasts full BlackBerry functionality (read: business-friendly), along with iPhone-like tiles on the home screen and a full HTML browser. It also has other consumer-targeted nods, like a built-in Facebook widget. RIM’s announcement is the latest in a string of touchscreen handset launches, like the Nokia Tube and the Google G1. It also fits in with two other trends: a shift toward attracting the consumer for smart phones, and the support for third-party applications. Where the iPhone has the App Store, and the G1 will have the Android Market, BlackBerry also has plans to create an open third-party development initiative.
