Businesses, Colleges Increasingly Eliminating Landlines

01/02/2009

More and more businesses, including public institutions like colleges, are dumping landlines as a cost-saver in these tough economic times. Many of them are relying on cell phones or VoIP technology.

While there aren’t any specific statistics on how many are doing this, Forrester Research estimates a whopping one-quarter of businesses are phasing out desk phones.

Insight Research says U.S. businesses spent more than $50 billion on wireless devices in 2008, but that number could double in five years.
