It’s Official: Bartz Named Yahoo! CEO

President Susan Decker Resigning

Yahoo! Inc.(YHOO) late Tuesday afternoon officially named Carol Bartz its new CEO and said President Susan Decker is resigning.

Bartz’s appointment is effective immediately, Yahoo! said.

Decker had sought the CEO job herself but apparently she was seen as being too closely aligned with embattled CEO Jerry Yang to inspire confidence among workers and shareholders.

Yang, by the way, now becomes “Chief Yahoo!”, a strategy role. He’ll also remain on the Yahoo! board.

No word on how soon Decker will leave or what opportunities she might pursue.
