AT&T Union Workers Rally Against Health Care Costs

05/18/2009

Hundreds of AT&T Inc. (T) union workers in El Paso, Texas, rallied Sunday to protest the amount of money AT&T wants to charge them for health care under a new proposed contract.

AT&T last week made its “final offer” to Communications Workers of America (CWA) members, an offer the union has soundly rejected. Talks between AT&T and the union have been ongoing for months.

CWA representatives say AT&T wants workers to shoulder 30 percent of their health care costs.

"We have helped make AT&T what it is today. AT&T recorded record profits last year of $12.9 billion, and all we are asking for is AT&T to take care of its current rank and file membership," CWA President Sid Searcy told a Fox News reporter on Sunday.

CWA members have until June 6 to ratify a contract with AT&T.
