AT&T Pushing 2G Users Over the EDGE?

01/05/2009

Is AT&T Inc. (T) about to push its 2G users over the, um, EDGE?

Word has it the goliath phone carrier quietly has been transferring its EDGE service to the weaker 1900MHz band, which means 2G subscribers – who include first-generation iPhone users, lucky them – either have to upgrade their service or find new wells of patience for dealing with the old one.

AT&T officially is denying reports that salespeople are telling customers to switch from 2G to 3, but that’s to be expected. The really sad part is that AT&T’s 3G service leaves much to be desired, too.
