AT&T Includes Guitar Hero With ‘Net, U-Verse Sign-Up

AT&T Inc. (T) has begun offering the Guitar Hero World Tour Complete Guitar game to those who sign up for certain high-speed Internet or U-verse TV plans. The offer includes the Guitar Hero World Tour console game and a new guitar controller.

The game will feature AT&T branding in three of the game's concert venues. The telco says players will get to rock out in the game's version of San Francisco's AT&T Park and will also see AT&T billboards in the Pan Tang Bay and Times Square in-game venues.

The telco says wireless customers will have exclusive access to mobile game enhancements. Those who purchase Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile, available starting last Friday, will be able to download one of four exclusive game songs starting in December.

Service providers are taking gaming increasingly seriously, rolling out bigger and often symmetric Internet access links. And gaming promos are likely to prove alluring with constricted consumer spending and the looming holiday season.

“The chance to take two hot trends ─ customizing mobile phones with music downloads and playing your favorite games ─ and integrate them into one cool experience is something we're really excited about taking to our customers,” said Rob Hyatt, executive director of Premium Content Services for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, in prepared comments.

The Guitar Hero promotion will be available through January 2009, according to an AT&T spokesperson. Consumers who sign up for AT&T High Speed Internet service or U-verse TV U200 packages and above qualify.

No term contract is required, the spokesperson continued, adding that prices for qualifying month-to-month plans start at $14.95 a month for AT&T High Speed Internet. Eligible U-verse plans start at $59.
