AT&T Still at Standstill With Union
06/18/2009
AT&T “continues to hold numerous items of the contract hostage to its demand to shift significant health care costs to bargaining unit members.” That’s the latest in a release from District 6 of the Communications Workers of America regarding its bargaining stalemate with AT&T. The union’s bargaining committee went home Wednesday without any real progress in talks, according to the CWA. And there’s no word when they’ll be headed back to the table to negotiate more. This comes five weeks after the phone giant proclaimed it was making its “last, best offer” to 27,000 union workers. The CWA immediately responded, calling the offer “a step backwards.” In March, the employees threatened to strike if there was no agreement by April 4, but so far, that hasn’t happened.
