ABI: Some Viewers to Shun Converter Boxes, Pay-TV

10/21/2008

Twenty percent of terrestrial TV viewers in America will let their TVs “go dark” after the move to DTV on Feb. 17, 2009.

That’s according to a new survey from ABI Research. The brief, “Terrestrial and Multi-Channel TV Viewers,” found that a number of former analog TV watchers will turn to DVD rentals and broadband video, rather than signing up for cable or satellite service or buying converter boxes.

On the other hand, 70 percent of terrestrial viewers will attach digital converter boxes to their TV antennas, while 10 percent will switch to cable or satellite, ABI said.
