Foundry Networks Inc. today went public with the first Tier 1 service provider customer of its NetIron XMR 4000 backbone router. The vendor said 1&1 Internet AG, which calls itself the world’s largest Web hosting provider and a leading international ISP, has now turned up an unspecified number of the routers in its network.
Pavel Radda, Foundry spokesman, said the new infrastructure enables 1&1 Internet, which in the last year has seen the traffic on its network double, to go from its previous 1- to 10gbps capacity to 10- to 120gbps.
Foundry announced the XMR in 2006, but had yet to name a tier 1 service provider customer of the platform until now, says Radda, adding that it has other Tier 1s, but those are still under nondisclosure. The XMR supports up to 128 ports of 10gig and up to 16 ports bonded/trunked of 10gig, according to Radda.
