Level 3 Gets Deeper Into CDN
11/07/2007
To further its presence in the content delivery network market, Level 3 Communications announced it will enable streaming services across its CDN so that customers can offer both live and on-demand streaming services across a range of formats (i.e., Windows Media, Flash, RealPlayer, QuickTime and Move Media Player).
Earlier this year, the company got into the business by buying CDN assets from Savvis Communications Corp. in order to bring cache and download services to Level 3. The company further expanded when it acquired Dublin, Ireland-based streaming video provider ServeCast in August. In the first quarter of next year, Level 3 plans to deploy ServeCast technology to allow end-to-end video asset management, including encoding, DRM, and the ability to manage and monetize content in-brand. Level 3 also announced this week a strategic partnership with Move Networks for the distribution of HD video services. The partnership includes a reseller agreement to distribute Move's Media Services and to integrate Move's technology into Level 3's CDN infrastructure. Level 3 Communications www.level3.com
