Verizon Business Quadruples Speed on Backbone Network Circuits
11/14/2007
Verizon Business plans to quadruple the standard speed on its backbone network circuits connecting major U.S. cities by deploying additional 40gbps transmission spans and circuits throughout 2008. Verizon Business currently has deployed 40gbps interconnections between its backbone routers to carry Internet traffic between Washington, D.C., and Chicago, as well as voice, data and video traffic on Verizon's MPLS network between Washington, D.C., and New York City. The router-to-router OC768 circuits use Juniper Networks Inc.’s T-series core routers. “Aggregating IP traffic onto one 40gbps wavelength means not only higher traffic throughput, but lower latency and reduced jitter, which translates into enhanced performance and responsiveness for Verizon Business customers,” said Fred Briggs, executive vice president of network operations and technology for Verizon Business. With TX Matrix technology, Juniper Networks’ T-series routers enable providers to scale to multiterabit speeds. The routing platform provides fiber-optic and electrical transmission interfaces, including Ethernet, ATM, channelized, SONET and serial interfaces. “As consumers continue to increase the adoption of broadband access, while at the same time requiring increased performance for high-bandwidth applications, Juniper enables our customers to keep pace with escalating business requirements, while controlling costs as they scale,” said Kim Perdikou, executive vice president and general manager of Juniper Networks’ Infrastructure Products Group.
