Cisco Buys Navini for $330 Million
10/23/2007
Cisco Systems Inc. said Tuesday it’s buying Navini Networks Inc., a privately held WiMAX equipment maker, for $330 million. The deal should close in the second quarter of Cisco’s 2008 fiscal year. Cisco will move Navini into its wireless networking business unit, which operates under the Ethernet and wireless technology group. Cisco said Navini’s base stations, modems and antennas for beaming and receiving radio signals using WiMax technology will bolster its Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi mesh portfolios. The Navini deal marks Cisco’s 124th acquisition. It’s also another stamp of approval for WiMax, which can deliver wireless broadband at speeds of 70mpbs over approximately 40 miles.
