Vonage Wants Review of Verizon Decision

10/10/2007

Vonage Holdings Corp. said Wednesday it has filed a motion seeking a review of a U.S. appeals court’s decision on a patent dispute with Verizon Communications Inc.

The court upheld on Sept. 26 a verdict that Vonage infringed on two Verizon patents. It also remanded the verdict on a third patent and ordered a review of the damages awarded to Verizon.

In March a jury said Vonage willfully infringed on the patents and ordered the VoIP provider to pay $58 million and 5.5 percent royalties.

On Monday Vonage settled a similar case with Sprint Nextel for $80 million and an agreement to license the technology it was found guilty of using.

Vonage stock was down 26 cents, or 11.87 percent, to $1.93 on Wednesday.
