PPL Telcom Enhances Fiber Optic Network

PPL Telcom LLC has enhanced its fiber optic network with the completion of a dual node gateway to provide an additional layer of protection to customers in the Washington, D.C., area.

PPL Telcom began design work on the twin node in February to bring additional backup to its network between Baltimore, Washington and northern Virginia. The second downtown D.C. location provides more power and security to the network, the company said.

The company plans additional upgrades for the network over the next several months. The installation of a dual node gateway, similar to the Washington project, is scheduled to be completed in the Philadelphia area by the end of July. There also is a planned fall expansion of PPL Telcom’s Optical Wavelength Service between D.C. and New York City, which will add 400GB of capacity.
