XO Expands Broadband Wireless Coverage

07/11/2007

XO Communications Inc. has added 24 new markets to its broadband wireless coverage area marking what it says is the nation’s most expansive utilization of fixed broadband wireless technology.

The broadband wireless network covers 36 markets as part of XO’s nationwide expansion and partnership with Nextlink, an affiliated XO company that has local multipoint distribution system spectrum licenses in 75 markets. This allows XO to deliver high-speed network connections at speeds ranging from 10mbps to 155mbps to support communications services including Internet access, metro Ethernet and VoIP, the company said.

By providing broadband access and networking services over fixed wireless technology, XO said it can offer businesses:

• Higher-speed Internet access and networking services at locations that lack direct access to fiber networks.

• Alternative network access for businesses served by only one local telecommunications provider.

• WAN to connect multiple business locations in campus environments.

• Fully redundant broadband wireless network connections for business continuity and disaster planning initiatives.

XO Communications’ broadband wireless coverage includes the downtown business areas in the markets announced today as well as most surrounding suburbs.

The new markets are Akron, Ohio; Austin, Texas; Baltimore; Boston; Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Denver; Detroit; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Memphis, Tenn.; Minneapolis/St. Paul; Nashville, Tenn.; Oakland, Calif.; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Portland, Ore.; Sacramento, Calif.; St. Louis; San Antonio, Texas; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; and Wilmington, Del. Existing markets include Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa, Fla., and Washington, D.C.
