Hostopia Acquires Mobile Technology
05/03/2007
SMB-focused Web hosting company Hostopia.com Inc. is getting into the mobile game with the acquisition of Nexthaus Inc.’s technology for synchronizing data between computers and mobile devices, such as calendar and contact updates. Hostopia acquired the software assets of Nexthaus in an all cash transaction of $950,000, plus performance incentives and earn outs of up to $200,000, plus 15 percent of revenue received from the acquired assets for three years following today. Hostopia will add the mobile synch capabilities to enrich its existing wholesale portfolio of Web hosting and e-mail services, but it also plans to license the technology to tap new segments like managed e-mail service providers and wireless carriers. The applications are Java-based, making for seamless interoperability between devices. Also, information on a user's mobile phone is automatically and remotely stored, for secure backup in the case of loss or theft. The mobile capabilities will be offered on a bundled and stand-alone basis. Key Nexthaus personnel will be employed by Hostopia to help integrate the technology and participate in its future development. Hostopia.com Inc. www.hostopia.com
