Consortium Adopts InfiNet Mesh Platforms
03/29/2007
InfiNet Wireless said this week that the Public Safety Broadband Consortium has adopted its new set of open standard mesh solutions designed for the 4.9GHz public safety band.
InfiNet’s open standard mesh platforms feature a mobile mesh hybrid router/switch, enabling multiple incident scene management, peer-to-peer connectivity applications, faster video downloads and automatic transfer to PTM mode when in base range. Its mesh router software has been ported to an open standard XScale hardware platform, allowing resellers and end users to take advantage of products from several manufacturers and suppliers.
The software allows InfiNet routers to run on multiradio nodes and frequency bands, as well as to support future upgrades to WiMAX 802.16e, InfiNet said. InfiNet’s built-in router functions are compatible with single, dual and quad mini-PCI radio slot options on the hardware platform.
The consortium is an industry partnership begun by Public Safety Broadband, InfiNet Wireless, WiFi-Citywide and Insight Video Net to advance the efforts of emergency response and wireless interoperability. It allows public safety officials and OEMs to purchase radios from multiple vendors and ensure communication on the same wireless network.
