Sonus Networks to Acquire Zynetix

03/27/2007

Sonus Networks Inc., a supplier of service provider VoIP infrastructure platforms, said Tuesday it will acquire privately held Zynetix Ltd. for $13.2 million in cash and stock.

The acquisition is expected to close by the second week of April. Zynetix designs and sells GSM infrastructure.

Sonus said it will integrate the Zynetix technology with its products to create platforms that address IP wireless access needs of GSM and 3G network operators.

Zynetix’s IP-based GSM products, which have been designed for commercial and government wireless networks, are based on 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) architecture and incorporate the elements required to provision GSM service.

Integrating Zynetix technology with Sonus’ IMS portfolio is a key step in the development of Sonus’ wireless portfolio of 3G and GSM products, the company said.

The Zynetix platforms allow local calls to be routed between mobile networks or PSTN.

Once the acquisition is closed, the existing Zynetix team will continue to serve its customers while the Zynetix platform is integrated into the development of Sonus’ wireless access solutions.

Andy Odgers, managing director of Zynetix, will join Sonus as vice president of wireless technology.
