AT&T Offers U-verse Customers Price Break on Internet Video

Looking to add allure to its IPTV-driven triple play bundle, AT&T today said it will offer U-verse customers nearly half off the $19.99 monthly price they’d pay to view Internet video provided by MobiTV Inc.

Having signed a deal with MobiTV last year, the reduced price – $9.99 per month – seems to be the only immediate benefits as customers won’t have the charges show up on their U-verse bill and will otherwise be able to access video already available to any of the Web site’s subscribers.

AT&T plans to add U-Verse specific content such as VoD movie trailers and have the monthly charge appear on customers’ bill at an unspecified future date, according to a spokesperson for the telco, which cut a deal to provide live programming with MobiTV last year, according to the latter’s Web site.

On the futures front, AT&T said U-verse customers will eventually be able to access MobiTV content via a mobile device, but would not say when, or specific device types.

AT&T is calling the price break a “service” dubbed U-verse OnTheGo, and is offering people a free 14-day trial. Folks can access MobiTV’s wide array of video programming, some of which is live, whether or not they subscribe to the service as a U-verse customer.

AT&T U-verse OnTheGo subscribers can access nearly 30 channels, several of which feature live programming – including The Weather Channel and Bloomberg Television, among others.

U-verse is available in parts of 15 markets, spanning six states, and can include high-speed Internet access and digital voice service.
