Report: Router Market Revenue Up 31 Percent
02/19/2007
Fourth quarter router revenue grew 11 percent quarter-over-quarter, and 2006 revenue is up 31 percent over 2005, according to a report by market and research firm DITTBERNER Associated Inc. Router port shipments for 2006 grew 9 percent, reflecting the market’s shift to higher bandwidth interfaces, the report said. Cisco Systems Inc. posted 12 percent quarterly router revenue increase and Juniper Networks Inc.’s was up 2 percent. The edge router market reflected the growth in advanced IP services like IPTV and VoIP, according to the report. That market was up 58 percent year-over-year and now comprises 64 percent of the quarterly router market revenue. The overall multiservice switch and router market grew 24 percent, according to the report. The core router market was down 9 percent last year from 2005. The multiservice switch market was down 25 percent over the same time period and will continue to decline as a result of a slowing 2.5G wireless infrastructure buildouts, the report said.
