US Signal Expands Optical Network
Bob Wallace
01/02/2007 US Signal, which provides bandwidth to carriers and businesses in the Midwest, announced Tuesday a major network expansion that includes the addition of access points in metropolitan Milwaukee, Wis., and in two Illinois cities by the end of the month.
US Signal said it offers unlimited high-speed capacity, dark fiber and collocation services and also works with customers to design and build new network construction projects.
The move is the latest in a fast-growing trend of operators looking to squeeze more bandwidth and operational efficiencies out of their optical networks by employing dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM)-powered equipment. The operator’s network deployment includes an 81-mile fiber SONET ring extending around Milwaukee powered by the Cisco Systems Inc. 15454 optical platform. “The addition of the metro Milwaukee SONET ring and connecting, DWDM transport adds cost effective access for advanced data solutions, as well as, one-stop connectivity within or outside of the Midwest region,” said Stephen Oyer, executive vice president for US Signal. US Signal also lit two new access points in Illinois at La Grange and Northbrook. Both were added to its protected DWDM fiber routes already serving the Illinois/Chicago markets. “US Signal continues to expand in regions where its customers seek alternative providers," said Barry Raterink, president. These network additions provide competitive choices to customers seeking affordable connectivity and advanced data offerings, he added. US Signal www.ussignalcom.com Cisco Systems Inc. www.cisco.com
