Microsoft Releases Office Communications Server 2007 to Beta Audience

12/12/2006

Making strides in its enterprise voice strategy, Microsoft Corp. has released Office Communications Server 2007 to a private beta audience of 2,500 IT professionals. Office Communications Server 2007 enables companies to integrate VoIP into existing telephony infrastructures and more easily control the migration to a full IP telephony network. It allows users to launch a phone call from 2007 Microsoft Office applications by clicking on a colleague’s name to determine his or her availability and initiating a person-to-person or multiparty call.

Microsoft also announced it is working with a network of partners, including Avaya Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., LG-Nortel, Mitel, NEC Phillips, Nortel Networks Ltd., Polycom Inc. and Siemens Communications Inc., to leverage the open SIP architecture of Office Communications Server to ensure interoperability with existing and future products.
