AT&T Launches IPTV in Houston

11/30/2006

As part of its long-detailed IPTV deployment plan, AT&T Inc. on Thursday announced the commercial availability of its U-verse offering in Houston, roughly six months after it debuted in its first market, San Antonio.

AT&T explained U-verse services are initially available in limited areas, with plans to expand availability on an ongoing basis. The carrier has said repeatedly it would provide the service package in 15 markets by the end of the year, giving it roughly a month to reach 13 more.

U-verse offers customers a combination of digital television — including more than 25 high-definition channels — and high speed Internet access.

Beginning Thursday, U-verse TV will offer Houston residents more than 300 total channels of video and music; Web remote access to DVR, which allows customers to schedule recordings using their AT&T Yahoo! Internet account and the ability to record up to four programs at once using a DVR receiver.
