Connecticut Town Upgrades Its MAN Infrastructure
11/09/2006
Greenwich, Conn., has upgraded its MAN infrastructure to Optimum Lightpath’s metro Ethernet service from an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). Greenwich’s Metro Ethernet network carries all of its data and Internet traffic. Previously, the network traffic was carried over three disparate networks. It is an upgrade from 10/100mbps to a minimum of 1gbps at each of the network’s 36 locations. The town’s ATM network was also built and managed by Optimum Lightpath, the business broadband service provider of Cablevision Systems Corp. “Not only is metro Ethernet a more cost-efficient and stable platform to support advanced network applications, like VoIP, but also it provides the flexibility to use Ethernet virtual circuits to isolate and segregate voice, data and Internet traffic,” said Boris Hutorin, Greenwich’s director of information technology. “We had an aggressive deployment schedule and required a seamless transition between networks without any interruption. The reliability of Optimum Lightpath’s network had a lot to do with their achieving each of our stated goals for this network upgrade.” Optimum Lightpath www.optimumlightpath.com
