09/25/2006
Vidéotron has signed a multiyear agreement with Nortel Networks Ltd., in which Nortel will serve as its primary VoIP technology and professional services provider to expand full-featured telephony services to its 1.5 million customers. Nortel is providing Vidéotron with an end-to-end VoIP solution incorporating Nortel IMS-ready technology and Nortel Global Services. This includes project management, multivendor integration and testing, and security assessment. Nortel also is providing technical support, emergency recovery and repair services to enhance ongoing reliability. In addition, TDC Switzerland AG, operating under the brand name sunrise, is supplying anytime, anywhere Internet access using Nortel’s carrier IP solution for network enhancement. New services, aimed at sunrise's residential and business customers, include the Web-based sunrise webphone and multimedia services with wireless and wireline Internet access. Meanwhile, Nortel’s carrier VoIP technology will be used by Golden West Telecom and Venture Communications Cooperative to deliver converged communications services in small towns and rural areas throughout South Dakota. The two carriers will use the Nortel platform to upgrade their wireline networks to packet-based infrastructure using SIP technology to deliver a range of communication services such as VoIP, Centrex IP business services and next-generation multimedia communications.
