Otelco Deploys CopperCom CSX Softswitches

CopperCom recently announced that Otelco Inc. will continue a major system upgrade by deploying two CopperCom Converged Switching eXchange (CSX) next-generation softswitches. The deployment further expands Otelco’s service offering, and will allow the company to provide customers with next-generation services such as VoIP.

“The current market is very competitive, and we wanted to be in a position to offer a unique group of services to our customers, including bundled services and next-generation services like VoIP and IPTV,” said Dennis Andrews, senior vice president of Otelco. “The CopperCom CSX will enable us to offer these services cost effectively and with full confidence that we can replace our legacy switch as well.”

Otelco is a full-service communications provider that offers services including telephone, cable television, DSL and long-distance. It supports more than 50,000 subscriber lines across a five county area in Alabama, a five county area in Missouri and a significant portion of the state of Maine. The two new switches will be deployed in the company’s Oneonta and Arab, Ala., sites.
