KPN Chooses Alcatel, Lucent for IP Network Upgrades

08/28/2006

Dutch operator KPN, which is in the midst of a major IP network transformation project to build one of the largest MPLS-enabled networks in the world, is looking to Alcatel and Lucent Technologies to help it meets its goals.

KPN has chosen Alcatel to help it expand its Ethernet VPN for business customers and Ethernet aggregation for residential services. KPN will use Alcatel’s 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) and Alcatel 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), which gives KPN flexible bandwidth across the WAN.

KPN also has signed Lucent to manage the deployment and integration of its IP network. Lucent is tasked with migrating KPN’s existing services and customers to the new network.

KPN’s all-IP network will be deployed across The Netherlands. It will support the delivery of triple-play multimedia services.
