MERA Systems Softswitch Supports VPF’s ENUM Registry Lookup

07/06/2006

MERA Systems Inc., a supplier of VoIP softswitches and session controllers, has teamed with Stealth Communications Inc.'s Voice Peering Fabric (VPF) to deliver a routing platform with integrated ENUM lookup capabilities.

VPF functions as an exchange or meet-point, and is designed as a private voice Internet. It lets members establish peer-to-peer connections and securely exchange VoIP traffic and telephony-related services. The VPF ENUM Registry will make it possible for carriers to route VoIP calls through IP networks, thus avoiding PSTN charges, the company said.

MERA Systems' new MVTS II will support routing capabilities, including options for a carrier to send requests to ENUM registries, analyze the responses, and use information received to take optimal routing decisions for each particular call.

On top of ENUM lookups, benefits of the MVTS II softswitch include native support of SIP H.323 and their variants, call routing mechanisms, transcoding capabilities, softswitch partitioning, mobile number portability, and operation analysis and reporting tools.
