MetaSwitch Helps CLECs With UNE-P Transition
03/14/2006
Equipment vendor MetaSwitch said this week it has helped 42 CLECs migrate from the ILECs’ switching platforms to IP switches now that government-mandated unbundled network element-platform pricing (UNE-P) ended on March 11. The FCC in 2004 ruled that ILECs, as of March 11, 2006, no longer would have to lease services to CLECs at set prices. Many CLECs have spent the past one-and-a-half years migrating to VoIP or installing facilities-based networks in order to remain competitive. MetaSwitch said it has installed its Class 5 softswitches, which support legacy and packet-based interfaces, for carriers including Valtech of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Planet Access of Lathrup Village, Mich.; and American Broadband and Telecommunications of Sylvania, Ohio. "This will not only position us to meet all of the FCC timetables, it will also drive higher margins throughout our installed base of 'on-net' customers,” said Jeffrey Ansted, president of American Broadband and Telecommunications. “Our MetaSwitch will allow us to offer next-generation IP and switched-based vertical services, not currently available in our markets, to further differentiate us from our competition."
