Verizon Business Launches Managed Services for IT Infrastructure
03/01/2006
Verizon Business has launched a managed service for outsourcing the monitoring and management of basic IT infrastructure and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris. The Remote IP Application Management Service Basic targets U.S. businesses and government customers looking to reduce the complexity of managing their IT environments. The service can remotely manage servers in a variety of settings --including at the customer premise, at a third-party data center or in one of Verizon’s more than 100 U.S. data centers. “As more companies transition to IP, they are looking for higher-value services that help them better manage their IP infrastructure,” said Ed McGuinness, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Verizon Business. Customers can use the Total View management portal to manage, measure, plan and troubleshoot critical server processes in real-time, as well as slice and dice a wealth of analytical data to identify and remedy performance problems. Meanwhile, Verizon Business tracks issues that may hamper the performance of the customer’s critical IT infrastructure at the operating system level. When a problem is detected – day or night – Verizon Business works closely with customers to manage hardware and operation system issues, including identification, verification, diagnosis, resolution, tracking, escalation and documenting problems with the customer’s system. The service also performs a number of functions aimed at standardizing the management of customer’s operating systems, including service management, change management, asset management, patch management and configuration management. Using an advanced set of Web-based tools, customers can track service tickets and manage modifications to their infrastructure. Of key importance to IT managers is the ability to patch servers systematically, traditionally a tedious and often time-consuming process. Verizon Business centralizes, standardizes and automates patch management by proactively analyzing customer systems and updating them with the latest software fixes necessary. Customers also can supplement the managed service with add-on options like backup/recovery management, security management and network management for additional network devices.
