Cox Expands Nationwide Backbone With Juniper Routers
02/28/2006
Juniper Networks Inc. today announced Cox Communications Inc. is upgrading its entire core network with Juniper Networks’ T-series core routing platforms. Cox previously deployed Juniper Networks M- and T-series routing platforms to support multiple applications, including peering, CMTS aggregation, high-speed Internet and video in its metro core networks. With advanced real-time services, such as video and voice, requiring higher reliability and assured QoS, Cox now is upgrading with T640 core routers in an effort to meet more stringent SLAs, the companies said in a press statement. Cox will use the M- and T-series' MPLS and point-to-multipoint capabilities to provide a nationwide network for the delivery of data, voice, video and applications. "Since 2001, Juniper Networks has consistently delivered advanced capabilities, performance, and the reliability Cox customers expect. We are pleased to continue this relationship as we evolve our nationwide broadband network," said Jay Rolls, vice president of Telephone and Data Engineering at Cox Communications. "Continuing to upgrade the national backbone enables us to effectively support demanding applications for our customers such as advanced video and voice over IP." Cox also uses a range of Juniper Networks security solutions and appliances to support the managed security service offered by Cox Business Services, the company's commercial services division. The security solutions also protect key elements of Cox's IP/MPLS backbone and provide site-to-site IP VPNs. In conjunction with the agreement announced today, Juniper Networks also was awarded a multi-year service and support agreement for maintenance on the routing platforms.
