Motorola Launches New Handsets, HSUPA, IMS/FMC and GSM Networking

02/15/2006

Motorola has made a cornucopia of news announcements at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona this week.

The news included:

Handsets: The vendor expanded communication and entertainment options with the W220, which will be available during the third quarter of 2006. Some of the phones features include a built-in FM radio, Web browser, picture messaging and lantern technology. The Bluetooth-enabled Motorola L2 provides Class 2 wireless communications and 10MB of user memory space. The Motorola V195, also Bluetooth-ready, offers 624 minutes of talk life and 525 hours of standby time.

Seamless Session Services: This solution helps providers rapidly evolve their network infrastructure by quickly launching, developing, deploying and managing differentiated telephony, messaging and media services, by enabling service and device convergence across fixed and mobile networks.

High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA): The company is enabling HSUPA on existing UMTS infrastructures to provide greater throughput and peak upload speeds of more than 4mbps.

Consumer Experiences with IMS: Motorola has added to its IMS portfolio. In addition to the IMS Mobility Manager, which enables voice call continuity, and Feature Server, which provides voice and data services such as call forward and caller ID across multiple access networks, the company demonstrated consumer-rich applications, such as TV on the go, live video calls from a 3G UMTS handset to a home- or office-based IP video phone, and hosted VoIP services.

Motorola Reach: Motorola introduced a portfolio of GSM network solutions, affordable wireless platforms designed for urban and rural deployments.
