BellSouth Plans IPTV Launch, Expands VoIP Applications

12/08/2005

BellSouth Corp. said this week it will launch the second phase of its market trial of its IPTV service next summer.

The nation’s third-largest local phone company held its analyst conference earlier this week and laid out some of its plans for the future. BellSouth has completed lab tests of its IPTV product and tested it within employees' homes. Next summer, it will test the service among a select number of customers in Atlanta.

BellSouth announced its IPTV service at CES in January 2005.

Meanwhile, BellSouth said today it has expanded support of its VoIP applications to include rich media conferencing, now that it has earned Rich Media Communications Advanced Technology Provider status from Cisco Systems Inc.

The designation means BellSouth provides the knowledge and skills required to successfully deploy Cisco Rich Media Communications technologies for high-end mid-market and enterprise customers.

"This program enables BellSouth to offer customers a business solution that will allow them to collaborate more effectively, reduce travel costs and improve productivity," said Keith Goodwin, senior vice president of worldwide channels at Cisco Systems.
