Aktino Releases AK3000 Platforms for Providers

05/02/2005

Telecom equipment vendor Aktino Inc. today unveiled its AK3000 products for long-reach DS3 (45mbps) over copper.

The platforms transport business-class services using one-third to one-half as many copper loops as other bonded solutions, such as G.SHDSL and HDSLx, according to Aktino.

The company also has developed a multipair transceiver that allows the AK3000 platform to load balance traffic across all the loops being used. The new product is T1.417-compliant and does not interfere with existing services such as ADSL and HDSL.

“Multipair copper solutions are a natural step-up from the current ubiquitous DS1s on HDSL in the business connectivity market,” explains Michael Kennedy, president of consulting firm Network Strategy Partners. “As the demand for bandwidth continues to grow, service providers are turning to bonded copper solutions to help them meet this demand. However, all previous bonding solutions have only shown marginal improvements in performance because of crosstalk within the pairs and the binder groups.”
