Nextel Launches Hotspot Service

Nextel Communications Inc. today launched its Nextel WiFi HotSpot service, which targets business travelers. The service offers unlimited broadband Internet access for laptop computers for a flat fee of $39.99 per month.

Nextel claims more than 7,000 hotspots throughout North America, thanks to partnerships with Boingo Wireless and Wayport.

The company says its new service gives users access from their hotel rooms, through wired-Ethernet or Wi-Fi connections. Nextel has developed a software client its says is easy to use and install, and the company provides wireless PC access that costs extra through its new im240 PC card for users needing coverage beyond current hotspots.
