Alcatel Adds Features to Switch, Router

Alcatel said today it has added new features to the 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and 7750 Service Router. The changes are designed to speed the roll out of triple-play and business VPN services.

Alcatel says BT Exact, the research division of BT, has tested the enhancements on the 7750 SR. The evaluation measured the performance of non-stop routing and services, and investigated the effects on adjacent routers in a multivendor network.

Enhancements to the Alcatel portfolio include scalable multicasting for IPTV distribution and automated per-subscriber security policies. Other new features on the 7750 Service Router allow it to deliver Layer 2 and Layer 3 services, VPLS, IP VPNs, high-speed Internet, ATM, frame relay, and new Ethernet, TDM and ATM interfaces.
