Adelphia Opts for Nortel VoIP Equipment, Services

02/24/2005

Cable company Adelphia Communications Corp. soon will offer VoIP services to its residential customers thanks to an agreement with Nortel Networks. Adelphia, the fifth-largest cable TV company in the United States, has opted to deploy the equipment maker’s VoIP and subsequent support services.

Adelphia will use the Nortel Communication Server (CS) 2000-Compact softswitch, which uses SIP to connect to the PSTN.

Adelphia also will rely on Nortel’s Global Services to build, operate and maintain its VoIP network. Nortel will act as the systems integrator.

Adelphia is in bankruptcy protection and up for sale.
