Alvarion Acquires interWAVE

Alvarion Ltd., a maker of broadband wireless equipment, has completed the acquisition of interWAVE Communications International Ltd., a provider of GSM and CDMA network equipment and services. The deal was approved by interWAVE shareholders on Dec. 8.

Alvarion says it is paying $4.18 for each interWAVE share, for a total of approximately $40 million.

The company says adding interWAVE to its operations provides a complementary solution for fixed and mobile operators in the world’s developing regions, and positions Alvarion to better address mobile broadband strategies.

"We welcome all the interWAVE customers as well as the excellent interWAVE people who will enhance our organization,” says Zvi Slonimsky, CEO of Alvarion. “Together we are in a position to make a real impact on the evolution of mobile broadband moving into the WiMAX era."
